Bambu Ships X1 Firmware After 237 Days: What Is In It
Published · Last updated · Applies to X1, X1C and X1E
Short version
On August 4, 2026, Bambu released 01.12.00.00 for the X1 and X1C and 01.03.00.00 for the X1E. It is the first firmware for the series since December 10, 2025, a gap of 237 days, and it lands four months after the line was discontinued. Both builds carry security fixes, better purge chute pile-up detection, a farm-mode improvement and a nozzle-mismatch bugfix; the X1E build adds a fix for network certificate installation. Install it. Security fixes are not something to sit out, and Bambu's EOL schedule promises feature updates and bug fixes until May 31, 2027 and security patches until May 31, 2029.
What actually changed
The X1 and X1C build (01.12.00.00) lists four items. Bambu's own wording is terse, so here is what each one means in practice.
- Security updates. Described only as "essential security updates" with no detail, which is normal for Bambu. This is the part that makes the update non-optional.
- Purge chute pile-up detection. When purged filament piles up during a print, the toolhead now moves to a safe position instead of continuing over the pile. That prevents the classic mess where purge waste welds itself to the hotend.
- Farm operation. After a farm print job finishes, plate clearing can now be confirmed directly on the device screen rather than through the farm software. Small, but it removes a step for anyone running several machines.
- Nozzle mismatch bugfix. Starting a print from files stored in the machine's own memory could incorrectly report a nozzle type mismatch. Fixed.
The X1E build (01.03.00.00) carries the same four items plus one more fix: network certificate installation that occasionally failed.
Why a discontinued printer is getting updates
Bambu retired the entire X1 line on March 31, 2026, with the X2D as the successor. End of life, however, was never announced as end of support. When Bambu pulled the plug, it published fixed dates in its EOL announcement: feature updates and bug fixes until May 31, 2027, security patches until May 31, 2029, spare parts and support until March 31, 2031.
From the March 31 announcement until August, that commitment was only a list of dates in a blog post, and the X1 had not seen new firmware since December. Nearly eight months without an update is long enough that a reasonable owner would start to wonder. This release is the first hard evidence that the promise has substance, and it matches the schedule: Bambu's EOL plan includes feature updates and bug fixes until May 31, 2027, so a farm-mode improvement and a bugfix are exactly what was promised.
What this does not mean
The X1 series is not un-discontinued. Bambu no longer makes it or sells it new (its US store lists only a refurbished X1C Combo, and some authorized dealers may still have new units in stock), the X2D is still the successor, and Bambu's schedule ends feature updates and bug fixes on May 31, 2027, with security patches until May 31, 2029. What changed is the confidence level: the support commitment is being honoured, not quietly dropped.
Should you install it
Yes, and without waiting. Our general advice on firmware is to give major version jumps a week in case a feature wave ships regressions, but that logic does not apply here. This is a maintenance build for a frozen platform, the feature surface barely moves, and the security portion is the whole point. There is nothing to gain by sitting it out.
One caveat that applies to every Bambu firmware update since the January 2025 Authorization Control change: if you run LAN mode or third-party software, read the release notes before updating, because firmware can alter how external tools reach the printer. Background in What is Bambu Connect.
Where this leaves the lineup
For the first time in months, the X1C is not the stalest machine in Bambu's range. As of August 6, that title belonged to the H2D, which had gone 156 days without an update, followed by the P1 series at 129 days, and the discontinued X1 series sat on fresher firmware than every other printer in the lineup. Update, October 1, 2026: the H2D got firmware 01.04.00.00 on August 26; the P1 series (185 days) and the H2S (184 days) now wait longest. Current numbers are on our firmware tracker.
