What each release changed, which builds Bambu pulled again and how long the X1 series still gets updates: Bambu firmware tracker.
Release write-ups: X1 firmware after 237 days · A1 firmware 1.08: multicolor without an AMS · Bambu Studio 2.8.2 (pause points on the progress bar need matching printer firmware).

Recent firmware highlights
In LAN Only mode the printer talks to the slicer on your local network for sending files and monitoring, with no internet access needed. Bambu Handy, starting prints from outside your network and print history do not work in this mode.
Developer Mode remains available for users who want full local access. See the ecosystem page for the full Authorization Control situation.
Camera-based AI detection keeps getting firmware updates: the H2D lets you switch nozzle clumping, spaghetti, air printing and purge chute pile-up detection on or off individually, the P2S got fewer spaghetti false alarms, and P2S and X2D alerts now show a live camera snapshot.
Speed profiles: Switch between Silent, Standard, Sport and Ludicrous directly on the printer's screen (a touchscreen on most models, the button-operated 2.7-inch LCD on the P1P and P1S).
The 2025 Authorization Control controversy
Bambu Lab's Authorization Control firmware, announced in January 2025, put an authorization check in front of LAN-mode control by third-party tools. After community pushback, Bambu kept Authorization Control but added an opt-in Developer Mode for LAN mode that switches the check off. LAN mode and Developer Mode remain available.
The current situation: LAN mode is available and functional. Developer Mode gives full local control without cloud dependency. The community's concern forced a more transparent policy, but the episode highlighted the risks of manufacturer-controlled firmware on network-connected printers.
How to update safely
- Check the firmware release notes before updating. Bambu Lab publishes changelogs
- Don't update mid-print or when you have time-sensitive jobs
- After any firmware update, run a full calibration (vibration compensation, bed leveling)
- Print a test object before resuming production
- If a firmware update breaks something, report it to Bambu support with your printer model and firmware version
Several printers: If you're running a production environment, test firmware updates on one machine before rolling out to all printers.
Checking your version: On the printer screen, open the firmware page in Settings (Settings → Firmware on the H2D, X2D and A1 mini; it lists the current and earlier versions). In Bambu Handy, open the printer's settings and tap Firmware Version. Bambu Studio's Device page also has an Update tab for firmware.
Rolling back: Bambu supports downgrading to a curated list of earlier versions it approves, through Bambu Handy. Older builds are also listed on Bambu's firmware download page under Previous Releases for an offline install from a microSD card or USB drive, depending on the model. If an update causes problems, report it to Bambu support as well.
