Ecosystem overview

Four AMS versions. They are not interchangeable. Check compatibility before buying.

AMS Lite
A1 Mini, A1, A2L
$199
  • Spools4
  • StackableA1/A1 Mini: no (4 colors) · A2L: 1 AMS lite + up to 4 box AMS (19 colors)
  • Humidity controlNo

Simplified version for the A-series: $199 on its own in the Bambu US store, or $100 extra in the A1 and A2L combos ($106.50 with the A1 mini), checked October 7, 2026. Works well for 4-color PLA prints.

AMS (Original)
A1, A1 Mini (hub), A2L, P1S, P2S, X1C, X2D, H2S, H2D, H2C
$249
  • Spools4 per unit
  • StackableUp to 4 (16 colors)
  • Humidity controlYes (desiccant)

Full-featured with humidity management and RFID reading. $249 for every printer variant in the Bambu US store (checked October 7, 2026).

AMS 2 Pro
A1, A1 Mini, A2L, P1S, P2S, X1C, X2D, H2S, H2D, H2C
$299
  • Spools4 per unit, stackable
  • Humidity controlYes (built-in drying)
  • MotorPermanent magnet servo
  • Speed60% faster filament feeding
  • A1 / A1 MiniYes, with A Series AMS Hub

The second-generation AMS, sold as AMS 2 Pro (some forums call it AMS 2.0, which is not a Bambu product name). Same $299 for every printer in the Bambu US store (checked October 7, 2026). The faster motor saves about 10 minutes per 100 filament swaps. X1/P1 printers bought without an AMS also need Bambu's Upgrade Compatibility Kit.

AMS HT
A1, A1 Mini (hub), A2L, P1S, P2S, X1C, X2D, H2S, H2D, H2C
$139
  • Spools1 per unit
  • StackableUp to 8 on H2 series and X2D, 4 elsewhere
  • Humidity controlYes (drying up to 85 °C, own power cable)
  • TPE, generic TPU, Bambu TPU 95A, most fiber filamentRear bypass outlet (unit acts as a dry box)

Single-spool AMS for drying and engineering filament: it dries at up to 85 °C (the AMS 2 Pro reaches 65 °C), and soft TPU or carbon- and glass-fiber filament that the AMS feed path does not take leaves through its rear bypass outlet. $139 in the Bambu US store (checked October 7, 2026). Compatibility and unit limits: Bambu's multi-AMS guide.

Vortek Nozzle System

Vortek
Not an AMS. A separate nozzle system that works alongside it.
New
  • What it doesSwitches hotends instead of flushing filament
  • MaterialsUp to 7 per print
  • Purge wasteMinimal (small prime tower per change)
  • Built intoH2C ($2,199)

Separate from the AMS. The AMS feeds filament to the printer; Vortek handles which nozzle prints. Together they enable multi-material printing with far less waste.

Compatibility

AMS Lite only works with the A-series (A1 Mini, A1, A2L). The original AMS shipped with P1S/X1C era printers. Since firmware 01.07.00.00 it also runs on the A1 and A1 Mini (with the separately sold A Series AMS Hub), but not mixed with an AMS Lite. AMS 2 Pro works across the current lineup (P-, X-, H- and A-series; A1/A1 Mini via the A Series AMS Hub). AMS HT fits the same printers; the H2 series and X2D take up to 8 of them next to 4 AMS 2 Pro, the P2S up to 4. Vortek only with H2C (built-in). Buying the wrong version means it won't connect.

Orca Slicer
Recommended

Open-source Bambu Studio fork. Better calibration tools, more control, active community. Direct printing and control on current firmware need LAN Only + Developer Mode; otherwise send the sliced file with Bambu Connect.

FreeOpen source
Bambu Studio

Official slicer. Simpler interface, RFID auto-profiles, cloud integration. Good for beginners.

FreeOfficial
Bambu Handy

Official mobile app. Remote monitoring, camera feed, print management. Requires cloud mode (not LAN-only).

iOSAndroid
Home Assistant

Community integration for smart home dashboards. Monitor prints, build automations. Works with LAN mode.

Build Plates

Textured PEI (most materials), Smooth PEI, Engineering Plate (high-temp) and the Cool Plate SuperTack (PLA and PETG without glue; it replaced the discontinued Cool Plate, see Bambu's build plate overview). Get a spare textured PEI for plate swapping.

Hardened Nozzles

Required for carbon fiber, glass fiber, glow-in-the-dark. Bambu advises against stainless steel and brass nozzles for these; they wear out quickly.

Filament Dryer

Essential for Nylon and PETG in humid climates. Sunlu S2 or eSUN eBOX are popular choices.

PTFE Tubes

Replace worn tubes in the size from Bambu's PTFE tube table: 2.0 mm ID inside the AMS and on the X1/P1, 2.5 mm on the A1, A1 mini, A2L, P2S, X2D, H2C, H2D and H2S. The linked Capricorn XS is 1.9 mm ID; Bambu advises against a smaller ID because it adds friction. In our own printers it has still worked better than the stock tube, which is why we keep recommending it; if feeding gets worse, go back to the stock size. Buy a length and a cutter.

IPA 90%+

For a quick plate wipe between washes. Bambu's main cleaning step for the textured plate is warm water and dish soap, because alcohol can spread finger oils. Buy a 1L bottle.

Available at any hardware store or pharmacy.

Kynup Digital Caliper

For measuring filament diameter and checking printed part dimensions. IP54 splash resistant with a large display.

Bambu printers work with any 1.75mm filament. Since Bambu cut its own filament prices on September 16, 2026 (PLA Basic refill $15.99, PETG Basic refill $13.99 in the Bambu US store), third-party spools are no longer automatically cheaper.

PLA / PLA+

eSUN PLA+ is the community go-to. Polymaker PolyTerra for eco-friendly matte finish.

PETG

Sunlu PETG is cheap and reliable. Use glue stick on smooth PEI to prevent over-bonding.

ABS / ASA

eSUN ABS+ and Polymaker PolyLite ASA. Require enclosed printer. ASA is UV-resistant for outdoor parts.

TPU (Flexible)

Overture TPU 95A. Print slowly, about 35–40 mm/s (Bambu Studio's Generic TPU profile caps flow at 3.2 mm³/s). Feed it from the external spool, not through the AMS: only Bambu's TPU for AMS runs through the AMS feed.
