P1P

Discontinued

Last updated:

The P1P was Bambu's open-frame mid-tier machine: same 256mm build volume and core motion system as the P1S but without the enclosure. Discontinued in February 2026, replaced by the P2S.

Should I buy the P1P?

The P1P is discontinued. If you need an open-frame CoreXY, buy a used one or consider the P2S ($549), which is enclosed, faster, and actually cheaper than the P1P was new.

Known issues

  • Discontinued February 10, 2026: Bambu promises firmware bug fixes and feature updates until November 14, 2027, security patches until November 14, 2029 and spare parts until February 2031. (Bambu blog)
  • Fiber-filled filament: Bambu advises against carbon or glass fiber on the stock hotend until a hardened steel hotend and a hardened steel extruder gear are fitted. (Bambu P1 FAQ)
  • Bambu Studio keeps the print height at 250 mm and blocks an 18 × 28 mm area in the front left corner for the filament cutter by default; the full 256 mm cube needs a stopper change and works only without the AMS. (Bambu wiki)
  • Printers on firmware below 01.09.01.00 must first install the 01.09.01.00 bridge firmware by offline update before any newer version. (Bambu release notes)

StatusDiscontinued

The P1P launched in November 2022 at $699 as the open-frame P-series machine, for users who didn't need an enclosure. Shortly before the enclosed P1S arrived in July 2023 at $699, Bambu cut the P1P to $599, so the enclosure, carbon filter and passive chamber heating cost $100 extra. That left the P1P in an awkward spot: only $100 below the P1S, without any of that.

The P2S launched in October 2025: faster at 600 mm/s, enclosed, and $150 cheaper than the P1P's $699 launch price. Bambu discontinued the P1P. There is no scenario where a new P1P makes sense in 2026: the P2S beats it in every relevant spec at a lower price.

Pros (historical)

  • CoreXY motion system at P-series quality
  • 256mm build volume
  • Full AMS compatible (up to 16 colors)
  • Good ecosystem integration (Orca, Bambu app)
  • 100°C bed despite open frame

Cons

  • Discontinued. No longer sold new
  • No enclosure: ABS/ASA unreliable
  • No activated carbon filtration
  • Only $100 below the P1S when the P1S launched, without the enclosure
  • P2S is better, cheaper, and available now
MaterialSupportNotes
PLA / PLA+ExcellentWorks great. Default material.
PETGGoodWorks well. Use glue on PEI.
TPUSupportedDirect drive handles TPU well.
PLA-CF / PETG-CFNot recommended (stock)Bambu's rating for fiber-filled filament on the stock stainless nozzle. Abrasive: swap to a hardened nozzle first.
ABSCapableBambu's rating for the P1P (not ideal). No enclosure = warping risk. Community enclosure mods help somewhat.
ASACapableSame rating and caveat as ABS.
PA / PCCapableBambu's rating for the P1P (not ideal). Hard to print well without an enclosure.

Your printer still works. Bambu still provides firmware updates (as of 2026) and community support is solid. The P1P uses the same platform as the P1S and shares most consumables and upgrades.

Consumables: Nozzles, extruder parts, PEI plates, and hotend components for the P1P are the same as the P1S. Both use the Bambu P-series nozzle system and remain widely available through Bambu's store and third parties.

Should I upgrade to a P2S? Only if the P1P's limitations are actually affecting your printing. If it's working well for PLA and PETG, there's no urgent reason to replace it. Wait for a sale if you do decide to upgrade.

Adding an enclosure: Several community-designed enclosures exist on Printables and Thangs for the P1P. A rigid transparent enclosure keeps heat around the print, making ABS printing more reliable, not as good as a sealed P2S, but a workable intermediate solution.

P1P vs P2S? P2S wins in every meaningful spec and, at $549, costs $150 less than the P1P at launch ($699) and $50 less than the $599 Bambu cut it to in 2023. There is no scenario where you should choose a new P1P over a P2S in 2026.

Where can I buy a P1P? No longer sold new by Bambu Lab. May be available second-hand on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or r/3Dprintingdeals. Verify firmware is current before buying used.

Is Orca Slicer compatible? Yes. Enable LAN Only Mode + Developer Mode in settings. The P1P is fully supported in current Orca Slicer versions.

Does the P1P work with full AMS? Yes, the P1P supports the full AMS for up to 16 colors (four units).
