A1 vs X2D
Best-value open printer vs best-equipped 256 mm machine
Which one should I buy?
The A1 at $299 is the value king for open PLA/PETG printing; the X2D at $649 offers the same 256 × 256 mm print area, enclosed, actively heated, with an auxiliary nozzle. Pay 2.2x for the X2D only if materials beyond PLA/PETG are in your plans.

- Bambu does not label the axes of these outer dimensions (A1 465 × 410 × 430 mm, X2D 392 × 406 × 478 mm); read as width × depth × height. Schematic outline; only the outer dimensions are Bambu's figures.

Same size, different ceilings
Both print on the same 256 × 256 mm area: the A1 up to a 256 mm cube, the X2D up to 256 × 256 × 260 mm. The A1 does it open on a bed-slinger platform: superb for PLA, PETG and TPU, hopeless for large ABS. The X2D does it enclosed with a 65°C active chamber, dual cameras, AMS 2 Pro / AMS HT support and an auxiliary nozzle, so its material ceiling is dramatically higher.
The A1's pitch is unchanged since 2023: most hobbyists never leave PLA/PETG, so why pay for walls. The X2D's pitch is 2026: if you ever will, buy the walls once, heated.

Enclosed for less than the X2D
The P1S at $399 and P2S at $549 are the cheaper enclosed steps; the X2D justifies its premium with the active chamber and auxiliary nozzle, not the enclosure alone.

What changed
Newest first, from this page's version history. Only changes to text you can read here; date refreshes and reshuffled reading links are left out.
- Build volume clarified: both share a 256 × 256 mm print area, but the X2D reaches 256 × 256 × 260 mm against the A1's 256 mm cube (was "both print 256 mm cubes").
- AMS row: the A1 also takes AMS, AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT via the A Series AMS Hub (up to 4 units); the X2D works with AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT for up to 25 colors.
- Corrected: X2D HEPA filter listed again (removed by mistake on Jul 31); the enclosure row now reads G3 pre-filter, H12 HEPA and carbon.
Earlier changes
- X2D max speed corrected to 1000 mm/s (was 500 mm/s).
- X2D filter spec changed to activated carbon only, no HEPA (was listed as HEPA plus carbon).
