Bambu Studio 2.9.1: Mixed Nozzle Sizes, Betas Go Stable

Published

Short version

Bambu Studio 2.9.1 came out on November 3, 2026, the first stable release since 2.8.2.61 in August. It adds the H3C and lets one model use nozzles of different sizes, each at its own layer height; for now that works on the H3C only. It also brings the features of the 2.8.3 and 2.8.4 betas to everyone and fixes the Linux freeze that made those betas unusable.

What 2.9.1 is

Bambu's release notes open with the reason for the version: “This Bambu Studio release adds support for the H3C, the new multi-nozzle printer in the Bambu Lab H series.” It is a public release, not a beta, and the first one since 2.8.2.61 on August 21. The two builds in between, 2.8.3 on September 8 and 2.8.4 on September 22, were public betas only.

That is how we expected it in our 2.8.3 article: no “2.8.3 stable”, but the beta work under the next number. The 2.9.1 notes say so in one line: the release “includes the features from the 2.8.3 and 2.8.4 Public Beta releases.”

Mixed nozzle sizes, H3C first

Bambu calls this “the most important update in this Bambu Studio release.” Studio could already give walls, infill and supports different filaments and nozzles. Now it assigns nozzles to regions of one model, and each nozzle prints at its own layer height: a small nozzle keeps thin layers for text and fine detail while a large one prints the body in thicker layers, in the same height range.

For now this works on the H3C only; Bambu says support for other models will follow in official announcements. Its blog gives estimates for the other multi-nozzle printers, later ones where a Filament Track Switch is installed:

When each multi-nozzle Bambu printer gets mixed nozzle diameters: the H3C with Bambu Studio 2.9.1 on November 3, 2026; by Bambu's estimates the H2D in November 2026, the H2C and X2D in February 2027, and with the Filament Track Switch the H2D in February and the H2C and X2D in March 202720262027NovDecJanFebMarAprH3CStudio 2.9.1, nowH2DH2CX2DSupported, without the Filament Track SwitchWith the Filament Track Switch from this monthMonth cells. The months are Bambu's estimates of November 3, 2026, not dates. Bambu calls it “a low-level adaptation project” because the AMS setups of these printers differ from the H3C's.

The betas go stable

Everything we covered for 2.8.3 now reaches people who never touch a beta. Two of these change prints without a setting being touched:

  • Sub-top surface. The layer under the top surface gets its own pattern setting and now defaults to monotonic instead of rectilinear, which Bambu says hides marks from the solid infill below.
  • Top surface path. The monotonic line pattern on top surfaces takes fewer travel moves, most visible on detailed top surfaces.

The rest you turn on yourself: illustrated tips when you hover a process setting (Simple Mode for now), a separate line width for the first layer's infill, an Archimedean spiral pattern for ironing, and custom filament vendors straight from the Filament Manager.

Fixed

The Linux freeze from the 2.8.3 beta is gone: 2.9.1 lists a fix for “the software freezing permanently when hovering over parameter tooltips on Linux”, issues #12233 and #12253.

What else changes, by printer

ChangeApplies to
H3C support, TPU 75A presetH3C
AMS filament backup between subtypes and colors of one family (PLA Basic and PLA Silk, for example)H3C only for now; other models with a later firmware update
Color mixing: Color Split becomes Color Matching, Bambu PLA Palette support, mixed colors outside the 32-filament limitColor mixing projects; the sublayer default only on H3C 0.4 mm presets at 0.2 and 0.24 mm layers
E3D High-Flow hotend and 1000 mm/s travel moves from firmware 01.03.00.00P2S: they need Studio 2.8.3.66 or later, so 2.9.1 is the first stable build that has them
Filament compatibility prompts with the filament selector, calibration fix for mixed nozzle diametersX2D
Drying page for an external AMS, temperature and humidity shown for slots not being driedAMS owners
Support for the E1 and E1 Pro purifierOwners of the purifier
Alternating-layer modifiers, conformal infill, tree support tip diameter (Developer mode)All printers

Smaller items: PVA now retracts 12 mm in one movement instead of 2 mm and then 10 mm, Support for PLA/PETG gets new temperature and fan settings, and the prime tower adds a diagonal wipe. Among the fixes: the account being signed out after sending a print job, a PETG support interface printed colder than the nozzle temperature, a macOS freeze, and the “Untrusted site” warning when opening MakerWorld models.

Should you install it?

  • On Linux and skipped the betas. Yes: the tooltip freeze that made 2.8.3 unusable is listed as fixed.
  • Own a P2S. Yes, if you want the High-Flow hotend or the faster travel moves from firmware 01.03.00.00; until now they needed a beta.
  • Own an H3C. Yes: 2.9.1 is the release that adds it.
  • Used the 2.8.3 or 2.8.4 beta. Check your presets first. Bambu's beta dialog says the beta uses a separate configuration folder, so presets you made there live in that folder.
  • Print the same files again and again. Expect top surfaces to look slightly different after the update, because the sub-top layer now defaults to monotonic.
